2- 14 Florida Flips

Florida appears to be having a nervous breakdown, and slaps little Michael. Willona takes her to a Women's Awareness meeting, but Florida refuses to participate, and calls the women "cackling hens." Upon returning home James demands to know where she's been. Florida tells him and an argument ensues. Then Florida changes her mind about the meeting.

2- 15 J.J Becomes a Man (Part 1)

J.J has a birthday party, but James can't get him the art supplies because his credit is turned down by the new computer system at the department store. J.J is disappointed at first, but seems to get over it. He leaves for the evening to go see his girlfriend Henrietta. J.J is arrested on his 18th birthday - for holding up a liquor store.

2- 16 J.J Becomes a Man (Part 2)

The entire family holds a vigil at the police station while trying to get up the bail money. Florida is on the verge of an emotional breakdown. James is desperate. They almost turn to a loan shark for the money, but then the real robber is caught and J.J is released. But he has lost his job because they found out about his arrest.

2- 17 Cross-town Buses Run All Day, Doo Dah, Doo Dah

Michael is selected to participate in forced busing in an attempt to achieve racial integration in Chicago's public schools. He doesn't want to go, but James talks him into it. Daddy were you ever bused? Yep! On foot! Past three nice White schools to a crummy Black one!

2- 18 The Windfall

James finds 65 thousand dollars in a brown paper sack in an alley from a botched supermarket robbery at Borgen's. He wants to keep the money, but Florida talks him into returning it.

2- 19 Thelma's Young Man

Thelma is secretly going out with a 45 year old man. James is shocked when he finally meets him. The man has a ring and is ready to propose marraige to Thelma. Florida convinces Thelma to break up when she can't admit that she loves him.

2- 20 The IQ Test

Michael refuses to take an IQ test at school, so he fails it. Michael claims it was a White racist test, not at all suitable for the African American sub-culture. James and Florida meet with the school faculty to discuss it, and end up getting jived by a white-bread computer nerd.

2- 21 The Encyclopedia Hustle

A blind man selling books about Black history tries to rip off the Evans family. But they catch on just in time.

2- 22 The Gang (part 1)

Satan's Knights recruit J.J into their gang against his will. Then they force him to wear a gang jacket and come to a gang fight that evening. James finds out and catches J.J on the street just before the fight. J.J ends up getting shot as he and his Dad try to flee the gang.

2- 23 The Gang (part 2)

James wants to hunt down the punk that shot his son. But Florida convinces him to be patient, and wait for the boy to be arrested. James finally gets to attend the boys trial - and ends up taking pity on the boy and his broken family.

2- 24 Florida the Matchmaker

Florida meets a gentleman that she feels would make a perfect husband for Willona. She tries to get the two married, even though Willona is not really interested.

2- 25 The Man I Most Admire 

Michael must write a composition for school, about the person he most admires. He chooses to write about his father.

2- 26 Sometimes There's No Bottom in the Bottle 

Thelma's cousin Naomi visits for Thanksgiving. She turns out to be an alcoholic in need of serious help - because of her parent's liberal attitudes towards drinking.

2- 27 Florida's Big Gig

James is offered a job as salesperson at a department store. Florida accompanies him on the interview, and now the manager is interested in hiring Florida instead of James.

2- 28 Florida Goes to School

On Willona's advice, Florida attends night school to earn her high school diploma. James is not happy and gives Florida a male chauvinist attitude.

2- 29 The Nude

J.J is hired to paint the portrait of a nude woman - in the apartment. Florida objects, and the painting ends up being done in a bathing suit.

2- 30 The Family Business

James is good at fixing things, so he tries to run a fix it shop in his apartment. Bookman finds out and threatens to evict - unless James fixes all his stuff for free. But then Bookman starts bringing around everybody's stuff. Finally Michael busts Bookman by producing a signed receipt.

2- 31 The Debutante Ball

J.J is dating a rich girl. He's going to the ball with her that night, but the parents try to break up the relationship because J.J is from a poor family that lives in the ghetto. James and Florida set them straight when they drop by to pick up their daughter.

2- 32 The Dinner Party

Michael notices dog food cans in a neighbors trash, but that woman doesn't own a dog! She must be starving - so Florida invites her to dinner. But the woman brings a meat loaf. Is it a dog food meat loaf or not?

2- 33 The House Guest

An old friend of James who seems to be doing very well comes to dinner. But it turns out that his wealth is based solely on the fickle luck of compulsive gambling. Florida notices her solid silver salt & pepper shaker set is missing.

2- 34 My Girl Henrietta

J.J's girlfriend, Henrietta, comes to dinner. The family is shocked to discover that she is pregnant, and J.J is talking about marraige! James and Florida try to talk J.J out of it, all the time thinking he is the father. Then Henrietta reveals the fact that J.J is not the dad - and she doesn't want to get married anyway.

2- 35 The Enlistment

James is unable to find a job due to the poor state of the Nation's economy. J.J secretly decides to enlist in the Army and send his paychecks home so the family doesn't lose their home. Then at the last minute, James finds work and rushes to the recruiting office to stop J.J.

2- 36 Thelma's Scholarship

Thelma has just been awarded a scholarship to an all girls college. The whole family is excited - until one of the white-bread students visits and reveals the fact that Thelma has been chosen primarily as a token Black to help bolster the image of this all White school. Thelma changes her mind and decides not to attend.

2- 37 The Lunch Money Rip-Off

Michael has been getting his lunch money robbed from him by a bully at school. Michael invites the boy to spend the weekend with his family.
